“The shows and movies can drive up the value of the comics and vice versa,” he said.
Some enthusiasts at the Pug Production expo said they were drawn by the $3 entrance fee. A similar show in Edison was charging $30, they said.
“I have about 100,000 books,” said Michael Perler, an avid collector of common-to-rare editions. “I started when I was about 10, and it grew from there. They are all in storage."
“(Perler) has the most oddball collection of stuff, some of the rarest items that you cannot find anywhere else” said seller Michael Williams, a math teacher in Newark.
“My students are into it. They tell me they would never get rid of some of the ones I have given them,” Williams said.
Vendors selling at a scheduled Dec. 13 expo in Clifton will have their tables sponsored by special causes yet to be determined in exchange for donating a special book for auction.
“We usually see more people, but we are competing with a show in Edison,” said John Paul,
Pug Productions operates the longest-running show of its kind in New Jersey.
